This is a watercolor and mulberry paper collage. I also used a charcoal pencil. The size is 15" x 18", it's on Arches watercolor paper. I think this may be the most vivid color I have gotten from transparent watercolor, mainly the yellow of the irises. It's available in my etsy shop $100

This is an older painting, I wish I would have kept this one. I am going to begin painting another one similar to it today. It is a watercolor collage on Arches watercolor paper, I used mulberry paper, and a charcoal pencil. I think it was around 16"x20".

I felt like I was stuck in a rut, so decided to do something different. I used Canson Mi-Teintes paper instead of my usual Wallis, and painted a landscape which usually intimidates me...I worry it will turn out boring. I really like the Canson this time around, it has been years since I tried it, and I think the landscape looks Happy.

This was such a fun painting to create. I worked from a photograph, and while I often work in layers with watercolor, I did this one alla prima (all at once).

I am beginning to feel more at ease painting this way, with myself, and with the surprises watercolor brings. Actually finding myself painting more as a result. Letting Go is good!!!!!!!!!

Peaches Original Pastel Painting

This is the mat, it's reversed cut and raised so that there is a space between the mat and painting- if any bit of pastel dust falls, it just falls down between the mat and the painting:)
The mat is 18 x 14 (standard frame size. The opening is 9.5 x 6.5.

It is So dark here today, my photos are not registering true color well. No matter what the photo or screen "says", this mat definitely has a warm tone to it, lends itself more to a clay/red tone, than to a blue or cream. I put a piece of white paper in there as a guide.

Peaches in Pastel

I decided I wanted some Blue in there:)

Last Saturday at the farmers market, I was next
to a woman selling peaches and nectarines.
I have never tasted fruit as good as the
sliced piece of nectarine she gave me.
Oh my Lord. it tasted like a juicy SweetTart!

Inspired by those gorgeous peaches and
nectarines, this was
painted from an online reference photo- I like to paint
directly from my monitor when using a photo,
it's better than looking at a flat image.
It's 10" x 7" Soft Pastel on Wallis sanded paper.

I have framed it to take to the market this Saturday. I
normally wouldn't take an original pastel, but it's framed, and
I think it's small enough that I can keep it from harm.

hope someone at the market falls in love with it,
it won't hurt if I am once again next to
the Peach Lady!

Cherry Blossoms

I was a little unsure about the composition on this one,
but I do find it interesting to look at, it keeps
my attention. Not sure how to describe this, but I like
my paintings to have an Immediate center of interest,
and then a True center of interest-
an unexpected
place...
it isn't as obvious, but draws you back to it
over and over again. For me that place is the
two little buds to the left.

This was painted on Arches cold press 140 lb,
with M. Grahamwatercolors. It's 17" or 16" x 12
(can't recall the width)
I am really liking the 140lb these days as opposed
to 300lb, I find the watercolors have more of a mind of their
own on 140, and I really like that rebel quality.

Sold this one the day after posting it on my facebook
art page, and it just DELIGHTS me that someone fell in
love so fast! The prints turned out really nice too,
which isn't always the case.

I have been so busy with making prints and other "stuff",
that I have been neglecting my painting a lot,
so I am trying hard to MAKE time to paint and
make it a priority, as it should be! Just started a painting
of cherry blossoms today, hope to post it soon!

When I was a child I would sit under the azalea bushes in my Grandaddy's yard,
it was like sitting under a colorful summer umbrella. I think that is why I am drawn
to this perspective of flowers... a child's view maybe.

I am so attached to this painting, but I wish it would sell because it would encourage me to paint more! You artists can relate to that sentiment I am sure! Here's my blurb about it in my Etsy Shop where I have it for sale: This pastel painting has a wonderful feeling of light and depth. The layers of light and color float on top of one another. Even though the pigments are bright, it has an airy and soft quality to it. The brown in the background in real life is much more a Milk Chocolate Brown than a super dark brown as it appears on my monitor.

I have seen a couple of sparkles of what I am pretty sure is halogen glitter in the shadow where the beak touches the breast of the swan. The glitter came from these angels I use to make at Christmas time, and somehow they found their way into my painting. It's not big glitter, but really "ultra fine halogen". I tried to remove them, but when I tried they were so teeny I couldn't find them again, but it's all good because now I have grown fond of them and they are part of this painting. So if you buy this and find and remove the glitter, don't tell me please. I'm an artist, I can afford to entertain these sort of thoughts.

This was painted alla prima! All at once, no layers, no drying time in between!!!!
I have always wanted to reach a place in the craft of painting watercolor where I might
be able to do this successfully. Lots more practice, but this was fun!

One of my gerber daisy pots I brought indoors to paint...
it's still cold and rainy outside here in the Pacific Northwest.

I see one of the daisies about to open is pressed against
another daisy (see closeup photos above)... and I am
pretty sure he's whispering in her ear...

I had SO MUCH FUN TODAY! Last Fall I cleaned and painted this little out building to use as a studio when weather permitted,and today it permitted. I was in heaven, birds flew in and out, I sang very badly and loudly, and there were no distractions. I am a happy girl.

btw, the pastel painting is just started, I am only keying in the colors so far.

I painted this a while back, I used a photo for reference and lots of imagination.
I love the combination of Burnt Sienna and Ultramarine inwatercolor. You can't
go wrong, and such a wide variety of hues and tones come through.
In some areas it even looks Purple!

Crow Bird #14

This is "crow", he came and stayed awhile as a fledgling, and when he could fly, he made a few trial runs from the top of the house and shed and back to us...and then into the woods. What an intelligent and playful animal, and what a chatterbox!

I wish we had a way to mark him before he left us, because we wonder if he comes around....especially when we see a crow perched on the swing, "crow's" favorite spot.

Not long after "crow" flew the coop I read this lovely lovely book. I highly recommend it- "the Caw of the Wild"

I am always surprised at how I feel when I sell a painting, sometimes I'm excited to get it shipped to the customer, but sometimes I feel a little tug at my heart strings and I really don't want to part with it just yet. That's how I felt about this painting of the stargazers when I was packaging it for shipping.

in a letter to my client: "I painted this last year from life, these pretty flowers lit up the corner of my room and smelled just gorgeous... the perfume wafted through my entire house. The white flowers that are tucked into the bunch are from my imagination, the more I paint, the less I'm inclined to stay "true" to the subject even when I start out that way. I like to think it's the artist in me that sneaks out while I am focusing on the craft of painting."

I drew "bird" a long time ago on the front page of my sketch book, and every time I reach for it, I see him first and it makes me smile. So I decided to paint him, but instead of one painting, I ended up with three of him... and now there are many... so I am sharing. Hope he makes you smile too.
